The department specializes in measuring and control engineering, including both technical and software for real-time control, electronic measuring and medical devices, signal processing and other areas. The Department of Control and Measurement in the Biomedical Engineering Department cooperates with specialists from the Faculty Hospital in Ostrava and other workplaces.
The research and professional activities of the department are focused mainly on the following areas:
- Sensors and methods for measuring electrical and non-electrical quantities, including EMC.
- Measuring and control technology for embedded and distributed systems.
- Information and communication technologies used in control systems.
- Mobile robot control devices.
- Simulation of Distributed Measurement and Control Systems.
- Non-numerical fuzzy modeling and control methods.
- Methods of predictive diagnostic systems.
- Measuring and control systems for alternative energy sources.
- Technology for healthcare applications.
- Measurement, transmission and processing of data in medicine.
The Department of Cybernetics and Biomedical Engineering provides courses in Management and Information Systems and Biomedical Technician in Bachelor's degree programs in Control and Information Systems and Biomedical Engineering in Master's and Technical Cybernetics in Doctoral Studies.
The department is educated by multidisciplinary electrical engineers who can apply the latest knowledge of automation, measuring, information and communication technologies in a wide range of human activities. In biomedical fields, students also gain knowledge of biomedical engineering and medicine.
Graduates of the bachelor's and follow-up courses Control and Information Systems are involved in design activities in the field of measuring, control and information systems, automation, maintenance of technological systems, technical support of sales of automation products and measurements. They are also heads of departments of technical development, independent developers, programmers, designers,
Biomedical Technician and Biomedical Engineering graduates apply in the field of application, design and research and development of technical solutions in medicine, especially in health care facilities and specialized companies. Their activities include the administration, maintenance, deployment and sales of medical instrumentation. They are thus indirectly involved in improving health care.
History of the department
The establishment of the Department of Measurement and Control Engineering in 1990 was a response to the planned restructuring of the Ostrava region and increased interest in measurement, regulation, automation and information technology in industry. The Department was founded on 1.7.1990 as Department of Microelectronics, but during the fall of 1990 the name changed to the Department of Microelectronics, Measurement and Control Engineering. After the establishment of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the new field of study of measuring and control technology, the Department changed its name in 1992 to the present name of the Department of Measurement and Control Technology. Since 1 July 1990, the head of the department has been appointed prof. Ing. Pavel Nevriva, DrSc., Since 15.12.1992 has been appointed Head of Department doc. Ing. Vilém Srovnal, CSc.
In 2009, the Department of Measurement and Control Technology and the Department of Electrical Measurements are merged into a single unit. From the staff department, the Department becomes a large number of employees and professional range. The head of the department is elected doc. Ing. Jiří Koziorek, Ph.D.
